My Knowledge of Painting Cabinets
I have become reluctantly skilled at painting cabinets over the last few years, though I’m not sure how it happened. The fact that I keep buying ugly houses may be why I’ve become a professional painter. I don’t set out to do it as a profession, but I’ve saved so much money you could say it’s my second job.
As well as cabinets, I’ve painted dressers, chairs, tables, RV cabinets, and RV cabinets. There have been wood, laminates, stained, and unfinished tables. There have been Maple, Oak, brand new, and 40 years old.
Through each project, I have learned a few lessons, which I document in blog posts. In a moment, I’ll link to those projects, so you can find out more about them.
Before Anything Else, Why Write Yet Another Post About Cabinet Painting?
This post is primarily for the purpose of bringing all my experience into one place, but I’ve also noticed something troubling over time that I’d like to share…
Things Keep Changing in the Painting Industry!
As of this writing, the products used in the most popular cabinet painting post are becoming increasingly difficult to locate and purchase.
I can’t bear the thought that someone reads my post, gets excited about the product, and then goes out to buy it, but cannot find it, ending up back at square one with their project.
The worst case scenario would be to get halfway through a project and fail to complete it!
In this article, I will explain how to choose the right products for painting cabinets, what methods are most effective, and what questions you’re most likely to ask about the whole process.

As compared to my favorite (but still useful) options, I would like to share three best-practice options for cabinet painting products. I will also explain why I prefer each option.
If you have furniture or cabinets that aren’t made of wood, I’ll share more options for painting laminate cabinets.
